  3. Think of the poor Maharaja bhupinder Singh of Patiala, who had to keep at least 10 ranis and God knows how many concubines!

    See here:
One such story relates to the legend of the Patiala Watch. The Maharaja had purchased a beautiful Gold Pocket Watch with Moon Phase etc at the time of the Delhi Durbar of 1911, for the Maharani Bakhtawar Kaur.

It is said that as a result there was a lot of discord in the Palace specially from the four Rani Sisters.

In order to placate the four Rani Sister, the Maharaja ordered four unique Gold Pocket watches, with very ornate and beautiful Gold cases in 22 carat Gold and added features of a day and month calender as well as the phases of the moon, to be "more grand than the Maharani's watch".

Edit: The Maharaja used the services of a Swiss based Jeweller called F.Russer who was a jeweller to several members of the Royal family of Kapurthala and was recommended to the Maharaja by his close friend Kanwar Jasjit Singh.

The Jeweller, working with the exclusive firm of watch makers, Picard Freres of Chaux De Fonds in Switzerland, also produced very ornate gold watches for the American market, but these had quite simple features and did not include phases of the Moon etc, nor were the cases for the American market made of 22 carat Gold.

So it came to pass that the firm of Picard Freres & F.Russer of Chaux De Fonds specially created four fabulous Gold Pocket watches, one for each of the Rani Sisters of Patiala, with all of the required features and more.

And so all was well in the Palace of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala!

All the best for your wedding :)
